Celebrate the President’s Executive Order on Competition

One year ago, President Biden signed an executive order promoting competition and opposing practices of powerful special interests that raise prices for consumers, impede innovation, prevent nascent competitors from succeeding and deny consumers marketplace choices.

One year ago, President Biden signed an executive order promoting competition and opposing practices of powerful special interests that raise prices for consumers, impede innovation, prevent nascent competitors from succeeding and deny consumers marketplace choices. Here’s what I said last year about its impact on unfair financial practices. Here’s what I told the Department of Transportation’s Aviation Consumer Protection Advisory Committee last month about how implementing its recommendations on increased access to airline flight information will give consumers more choices and improve airline competition.

Another major point of emphasis from PIRG about the Executive Order was regarding Right to Repair: The order called on the Federal Trade Commission, to step to prevent repair restrictions. The FTC has recently announced three new Right to Repair enforcement actions, while support from federal officials has been critical to other progress in the campaign to let Americans fix their stuff.
